A: I had been waiting for the school to send me a Summer School notice but it never came. I thought it had something to do with the severe budget cuts going on in San Diego schools right now. A few weeks ago I asked Matthew to Man Up and go to the Office and find out. He said he was not on the list to attend. (Which is true). What I did not find out until later was that Teenagers are expected to sign themselves up. WTF!! If a kid is dishonest enough to lie about their homework for an entire semester (or year) what would make a school think that the kid would voluntarily sign themselves up for Summer School? WHO IS THAT FUCKING STUPID?
B: Summer School enrollment is full. They told us to come down on the first day and see if there was an open slot. Mr M and I head on down Monday morning at 7:15 (6-22). There are kids everywhere!! It seemed almost like a normal day, which is scary. Mr M gets a number and waits. All the pre-registered kids go in to class and the rest keep waiting. There were 200 teens just sitting around trying to get in to summer school. Only about 15 extra got in. Mr M was #47. Well that was a waste of time. It worries me that so many students needed to attend but there were not enough Teachers to go around. If we do not get more of these kids to pass a class they may grow up to be the people in charge of budgets and then we really wont have any money. Lack of knowledge breeds ignorance.
C: No child should have to attend school in July & August. It is too dang hot. The only thing they should be doing is laying in a pool, throwing water balloons while shooting a water blaster under a sprinkler. I know school districts want to change things around for financial reasons but doesn't running the air conditioning for 2 months solid cost more? Silly administrations are not looking at the big picture...again.
